KUCHING: Parti Islam SeMalaysia (PAS) has been reminded not to feed the people of Sarawak with the same “old rotten issues” which would only make the people “sick” of the party.
Par t i Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Deputy President Datuk Amar Abang Haji Johari Tun Openg (pic) sarcastically advised PAS to stop playing “the old tune with the same fiddle” to fish for sympathy votes from Sarawakians because “you will get none”.
“The issues that PAS is raising are the same old issues used during the last state election during which the party was rejected and humiliated badly. Now they are coming back to get some more humiliations,” he said.
Johari, who is Satok State Assemblyman, was referring to the visit and ‘ceramah’ made by PAS Deputy President Mohamad Sabu (aka Mat Sabu) at Taman Matang Jaya here on last weekend.
The ‘ceramah’ was attended by only a handful of people.
“They are using the same old issues, slanders and lies which they used during the last state election, the results of which clearly indicated that the party was rejected by Sarawakians,” he said.
Johari, when met after his visit to the ‘Janji Ditepati’ Exhibition site yesterday afternoon, was asked by New Sarawak Tribune whether Mat Sabu’s visit and ‘ceramah’ and the setting up PAS’ base in Taman Matang Jaya last weekend could affect the BN’s winning majority.
“I believe not.As I have said on many occasions, the people of Sarawak are very wise when making their choices, especially when voting,” he said.
KUCHING: Gerakan’s National Youth Secretary-General, Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai, has advised Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth and Women sections to apply the Blue Ocean Strategy in the coming polls.
Dr Lau was in Kuching yesterday on the invitation of SUPP to share ideas on how to change the mindset of young people who have the tendency to vote for the opposition.
Dr Lau, who also gave a talk to about 40 participants at SUPP headquarters here, said he was more into the Red Ocean Strategy, which was more of a military strategy.
He added that he would talk more on the Blue Ocean Strategy, which is more innovative rather than competitive strategy.
The talk focused on treating the coming general election as a saviour for the Barisan Nasional (BN) and not a challenge.
“Every vote counts. The BN should not focus on votes but more on the people’s mindset and how to get into views and thoughts of the younger generation,” said Dr Lau.
He pointed out that the different constituencies would demand different strategies, and the traditional ways of spending money and holding dinners would not work anymore.
He said people would only come and eat, take the handouts but still vote for the opposition.
Dr Lau also advised that candidates for the election should be identified and then focused on their strong personality.
“Prove their competency that they can deliver,” he advised.
He said the Blue Ocean Strategy was also used by the Prime Minister to transform the country and to meet the National Key Results Area (NKRA) targets.
He pointed out that during the last state election, the DAP flew in Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to talk about the political scenario in Peninsular Malaysia.
“As the state BN can counter issues, we (Gerakan) are here to share with them the correct version of the political scenario in Peninsular Malaysia so the information can be spread to the people,” he added.
Dr Lau said both SUPP and Gerakan were similar in many ways in that they were both multiracial parties with more Chinese members.

KUCHNG: The state government, in collaboration with the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), is planning to develop affordable quality houses for the medium income group based on the PRIMA (1Malaysia Housing Programme) concept.
Minister of Housing Datuk Amar Abang Haji Johari Tun Abang Haji Openg informed that PRIMA is presently conducting a nationwide survey to gauge and establish the demand and need for affordable house among the middle income group.
“PRIMA is working with the respective state governments, either through identifying areas best for PRIMA development or through a possible joint-development based on the PRIMA model.” “Through a ‘Jelajah Janji Ditepati’ exhibition held in conjunction with the Prime Minister’s visit, HDC through a private developer will showcase the design of the proposed project under the PRIMA Booth at Wisma Bapa Malaysia carpark area here from 28-29 April.” Johari said this during at a press conference yesterday afternoon, after visiting the venue where the exhibition will be held.
PRIMA will do the market survey and if the demand is there, a joint-venture between PRIMA and HDC will be finalised to start building the first affordable housing project for the medium income group.
According to Johari, the project will ultimately become the basis for future township development under HDC and PRIMA, meant for the medium income segment.
“Under this initiative, HDC and the private developer are proposing to build 111 double-storey terraced houses at Demak Laut under Phase 1 and we are constructing a one to one (1:1) scale mock-up unit for the public to view at the exhibition.” “The design will be contemporary and modern, with 3+1 rooms, three bathrooms and the units will each be sold between RM150,000 and RM300,000, which is lower than the market price.” “PRIMA housing will help to reduce the gap in the supply of medium-cost housing, especially for first time house buyers with household incomes ranging from RM2,500 to RM7,500,” Johari explained.
The project aims to assist the middle income group living in and around the urban centres who can neither afford to buy high-end property nor eligible to buy houses under public schemes.
“This PRIMA housing project at Demak Laut is a pioneer project in the state and is estimated to complete between 18 to 24 months.
“If the demand is there, it will be implemented in Sibu, Miri and other towns but will be done on a cluster basis with each of these housing estates having the 1Malaysia clinic, Kedai 1Malaysia and other facilities needed for a new township,” said Johari.
The first PRIMA project in Putrajaya was launched in July last year and other than the Klang Valley it will be extended to other states based on demand.
Also present at the press conference were PR1MA Berhad Chief Executive Officer Datuk Abdul Mutalib Alias. Last Updated (Friday, 27 April 2012 11:27)
