Surge in drug menace

There has been an alarming increase in drug-related crime from January to mid-August this year, compared to the same period last year, according to figures released recently by Sarawak police’s Narcotics Division.

Professor Datuk Dr Zainal Kling, who represented the National Council of Professors, had issued a hilarious and farcical statement by claiming that Malaya, except for the Straits Settlements of Malacca and Penang, was never a colony of Britain.All the federated and unfederated Malay states, he said, were British protectorates.

Nearly RM1 million FELCRA dividend for mosque trust board

MUKAH: Masjid Setia Raja Trust Board (MSRTB) yesterday morning received a dividend close to RM 1 million from FELCRA Balingian Plantation Sdn Bhd.

A cheque for RM979,175 was presented by FELCRA Balingian Board of Director Chairman, Dato’ Ghazali Mohd Yusof to MSRTB Secretary, Datu Haj i Sarudu Haji Hoklai, at the presentation ceremony held at the mosque.

It was followed with the presentation of contribution from MSRTB to three mosques and 33 suraus in the Mukah District.

The contribution was in monetary form, namely RM2,000 each for the mosque and RM1000 for the suraus.

Sarudu, who is also Sarawak Timber Development Council (STIDC) Director and Ghazali both spoke at the event.

The simple and meaningful function also saw the presentation of FELCRA Balingian Business Zakat (obligatory alms) to Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak(TBS).

Among those present at the event were Mukah Deputy R e s i d e n t ( D e v e l o p m e n t ) Mohamad Junaidi Mohidin, Mosque Committee Chairman who is also Dalat/Mukah District Council Walikota Haji Ali Suhaili, TBS Collection Division Manager Salim Bujang, MSRTB Treasurer and Administrative Officer Haji Long Haji Bedol, heads of departments and local community leaders.
